Brief:

These guidelines serve to assist the clinical team in the management of patients on antiretroviral drugs. ART is now considered an integral part of a comprehensive response to HIV prevention, care and support The approach adopted is to strive for a continuum of care, a holistic focus on the patient in an integrated health system, from the ART clinic to the community and from pre-diagnosis to palliation as appropriate. The focus is at the hospital level within the context of the regional health system with the aim to further decentralise care to the local clinic level.

These guidelines have been reviewed in light of new evidence, programmatic experience and the latest revision of the WHO guidelines. In the future, they will again be revised as necessary to reflect the changing world of the treatment of HIV to ensure the highest possible standard of care for all people of Swaziland.
